| Strong timing belts + expanding block/heads + improper tensioner slack = sheared idler studs. There is no other cause for sheared idler studs. A properly installed tensioner will never shear studs, stock or whatever. An improperly installed tensioner will shear studs, regardless of what grade of steel you use. Even setting the tensioner with ~4-5mm of slack at room temp and then starting/warming the engine will take every bit of that slack out of the tensioner pin once up to operating temps. You can literally sit and watch the slack disappear as the engine warms up when t-belt covers aren't installed.
